Purpose
These courses are designed to train professionals in the technology and use of commercial/architectural coatings. The curriculum begins with a basic course that is a prerequisite to the others, and which covers all the essentials of paint and paint technology: paint chemistry and manufacture, color, application methods, safety, paint specifications, and more. The next level goes into greater detail on the nuances of specifying and applying coatings for each individual substrate encountered in the built environment, with one course dedicated to new (architectural) painting work and a separate course for repaint (maintenance) applications. Both courses are also designed to enable a facility manager to assure that what has been specified is being completed to MPI standards or the standards he deems mandatory. The final level prepares a paint/coating specialist to progress to an MPI Certified Architectural Coating Inspector
