2023
2023 has been an exciting year for MPI, as we continue to learn, improve, and expand upon our products and services; with a goal of providing the coatings industry with the tools and knowledge required for quality coatings projects, not just in North America, but also globally.
Just some of these updates are highlighted below:
As requested by the industry, we were able to separate out our Essentials course content; making it available as individual modules for PDH hours. These new modules have also been translated into Spanish, working in collaboration with ANAFAPYT to provide accessible training to their members in an effort to increase the level of quality and paint performance in Mexico and the Latin American region.
The MPI Standards Community Group 10 Community of Interest made excellent progress on proposed updates to the 500 series set of MPI Performance standards. Working closely with the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAFVAC) and United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to focus the efforts, as well as getting insight, feedback and suggestions from manufacturers.
Working with input from the industry, we have developed the highly anticipated Repainting/Restoration Decision Tree tool and redesigned the Architectural Decision Tree tool. These tools have been designed to simplify paint selection in the specification process and output project specific information. They will be available to purchase individually or as part of a full package at the start of 2024.
Looking forward to 2024
We have many new projects due to launch throughout 2024, including:
A new MPI website, with a fresh new look and a design based on ease of use and navigation to the information our customers need, while consolidating all previous MPI websites into one, efficient homepage. This will go live at the start of 2024, and all feedback is welcome.
Another new addition to the website will be an industry blog, which is designed to provide the commercial and architectural painting industry with a content forum where they can ask questions and interact with other industry experts.
Along with the new website, blog and SEO initiative will come new and unique advertising opportunities. Look out for our updated Media Kit at the start of 2024 to secure your placements.

Congratulations to the Latest MPI Certified Students
Essentials of Paint and Painting Technology
Mildew, is a general name for a variety of fungal species of the family, Erysiphaceae. Mildews seen on painted surfaces are usually black, brown or gray, and can be mistaken for dirt. At a magnification of 20X, mildew appears as a central spore, with many fibers (mycelium) reaching outwards. Another way of field testing is to place a few drops of household bleach (5.25% sodium hypochlorite) on the damage. The bleach will turn mildew white, but leave dirt unaffected.
