What does it mean to be an MPI Champion?

All manufacturers that work with MPI are dedicated to quality. Every year we see some strive to challenge the norm, expand their capacity and innovate on behalf of the industry. From earning exceptional performance testing ratings on their products to investing in the coatings education of their teams, the MPI Champion Program recognizes those that have gone above and beyond.

Each year, MPI evaluates manufacturers across four categories:

1. Product Performance Champion is determined by comparing the number of listed products across all categories in the MPI Approved Products List, the ratings achieved on those products, and the breadth of categories represented. Top manufacturers demonstrate consistent and commitment with adherence to MPI quality standards.
   
   
2. Green Performance Champion is awarded to the manufacturer with the highest ratio of X-Green listings compared to their total number of listings in categories where X-Green certification is available. This champion demonstrates leadership and innovation in sustainable, environmentally responsible coatings.
   
   
3. Coatings Education Champion is selected based on the investment in MPI Training courses throughout the year and the commitment to creating learning paths for their teams. This award honors those who invest in the professional development of their teams and the broader industry.
   
   
4. Commitment Champion recognizes a manufacturer's overall dedication to MPI programs, including performance testing, education initiatives, promotional efforts, and adoption of MPI standards and systems. This champion demonstrates comprehensive engagement across all aspects of quality coatings practice. In many instances this award is given to emerging manufacturers looking to grow and make impact.

MPI Champions receive digital badges, recognition on MPI and AMPP social media platforms, complimentary subscriptions and training, and an exclusive physical award presented at the AMPP Annual Conference + Expo in Houston on March 17, 2026.

The MPI Champion Program celebrates excellence while encouraging the entire industry to raise the bar. By recognizing manufacturers who prioritize testing, sustainability, and education, MPI helps specifiers, contractors, and building owners identify trusted partners for their projects.
